Nicolle Begovic, 35, is a dedicated equestrian athlete with a resolute approach and commitment to the much loved sport of Dressage.
A strong commitment and high expectations to the sport to which she has dedicated herself to full time, Nicolle demands high expectations of herself and her approach to the discipline she loves with a passion.
Focused on driving her career to the highest level, Nicolle is aiming towards International Championships and eventually Olympic level, and has already represented Great Britain at International level.
Nicolle is based in the South of England and regularly makes the 200 mile round trip to Staffordshire every week to train with top International Dressage rider and coach, four-time Olympian and former British number one Richard Davison.
Born and raised in the United States forming a zeal for Western riding and rodeo’s, which were prolific in Nicolle’s Tennessee hometown of Mountain City, and providing the platform of a life long love affair with horses.
Relocating to the UK when she was 10, Nicolle was first introduced to Dressage by Tina Layton and her Grand Prix mare Pik Dame, demonstrating the beauty and skill of Dressage at its highest level. Nicolle became instantly hooked on the style.
Although horses were a staple throughout Nicolle’s school life she went onto produce 11 GCSE’s and 4 A-Level’s - originally intent on becoming an Equine Vet, however, Nicolle took the decision to focus on riding at which point she used her mathematical strengths to study for a BA in Accountancy graduating in 2004.
While at University she met her husband, professional and international goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic, who currently plays for Premier League football team Bournemouth FC and his country, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Nicolle and Asmir have two daughters, Taylor and Blair, and they enjoy spending as much quality family time together as possible. They also have an extension to their family in the form of their three dogs Louis, Toby, and Max along with a collection of adopted ex-racehorses, ponies, pygmy goats and rabbits but to name a few! Although Dressage and Football are a full-time occupation for both Nicolle and Asmir, Nicolle enjoys spending time at home with the family and indulging in other interests such a health and fitness. Nicolle is also studying for a BSc in Forensic Psychology to further develop her education and interests.
Having ridden at a high level in the world of Dressage, as well as my husband being a professional athlete too, I appreciate the high value we need to place on managing and maintaining our horses both in and out of the saddle. For me, the benefit of recovery and horse management is so important for longevity and success of any horse and rider partnership and I have been really impressed with the quality and range of products from Centauras which have really supported my horses to maintain suppleness, build strength and recover quickly from exercise.
